The coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms, took place on 6 May 2023. 
 
Australia’s connection to the British Royal crown dates back to the late 18th century when the British established a penal colony in New South Wales. While the British king and queen's role in Australia is nowadays primarily ceremonial, teaching children about British royalty can help them develop an appreciation for history and the role that influential figures play in shaping societies throughout the ages.
