War is a tricky subject to talk about with little children, due to the nature of the topic. In Australia, Anzac Day (25th April) and Remembrance Day (11th November) provide opportunity for Australians to acknowledge the sacrifices made by service men and women; those involved in protecting our country.
To recognise the importance of these days, a good starting point is to teach children about the symbols of remembrance, such as the red poppy flower, Anzac biscuits, or the slouch hat worn by Australian diggers.
Our REMEMBRANCE curriculum planner provides a large selection of activities to help educators bring learning opportunities to children, re-creating symbols of remembrance.
