Emergencies can happen at any time of day, and in any kind of weather.
Emergency practice drills in a childcare service should also be done at different times of day and in all kinds of weather.
Display these posters in your environment and take away the control and predictability of when your emergency drills will take place. Let the children raise the alarm and keep us from harm.
Three poster pack to be used for fire, fumes and lockdown drills.
- You've Found a Fire
- You Smell Fumes
- Lockdown
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Print your posters and show them to the children.
- Instruct children to let you know if they ever find one of the posters at your service.
- When you're ready, put the poster on the wall (inside the service, in the yard or actually on play equipment) and then just forget about it. Let the children find it during the course of the day or week. They may not see the poster straight away, but when they do they need to tell you.
- When the child has raised the alarm, that's when you need to stop everything and conduct your emergency drill.
This resource is to help you reflect on how your service responds to emergency situations.
How much of the emergency drill procedure do the children remember?
Can they tell you what needs to be done? Were you ready to grab-and-go?
