"What do you want to be when you grow up?" This is a question most children are asked at a young age. When we think about occupations, instantly the idea of community helpers comes to mind.
Children love to learn about the people around us that have interesting and important jobs to do. They benefit greatly from learning about community helpers as it introduces them to the various roles people play in their community, fosters a sense of empathy and respect for others, and helps them understand the importance of cooperation and collaboration within society.
Through the activities prepared in the Community Helpers theme, children will learn about specific jobs and occupations in the home and community; appreciate the people in their lives that work to help them grow and learn; and learn to do specific age-appropriate chores to help their family. They will learn the difference between paid and volunteer work, why some people have multiple jobs, and how everyone in the community is linked to each other.
